Eco friendly Living Save Money Save Energy
1. In our modern day era, our insatiable demand for energy has had such a great negative impact on the environment. The question of sustainable use of power in our everyday lives is critical as well as the continued supply of affordable gas, whose prices had reached record highs in the recent past.
2. Can we really save energy? Yes by opting for alternative sources of power such as thermal energy, solar power or wind power which are the most common. We can reduce the energy consumption in our homes by doing simple things such as switching off light bulbs when not in use and unplug any electrical appliance that is idle. Use light emitting diode bulbs or compact fluorescent ones instead or regular bulbs since they consume less power. Conducting a home energy audit is a good idea especially if you want to know just how much power is wasted in your home and how to save money on power bills.
3. Consider line drying your laundry instead of using a dryer, this will eliminate unnecessary use of electricity. Heating or cooling your home using the conventional means uses up a great deal of energy. Thankfully there are a few ways in which you can cut down on your home energy consumption and one of them is having a green roof. Planting vegetation on your roof, this may seem little weird but green roofs save energy by keeping the home cool in the summer and warm in the winter. The vegetation filters carbon dioxide emissions via photosynthesis; they also provide a home for insects and birds as well as a kitchen garden where you can plant vegetables, spices or flowers.
4. Be smart when selecting home appliances at the store by looking out for ones that are energy efficient. Currently several electrical appliances have a yellow energy guide label that indicate the item’s power consumption per annum. Installing and alternative energy system in your home such as a solar power system is a wonderful way for you to reduced your power bills and stop pollution.
5. You can use a portable solar charger to recharge the batteries on all your portable electric gadgets such as phones, laptops, iPods etc using solar energy which is free. There are numerous solar chargers available on the market and they come with many designs ranging from flowers, notebooks, and some are even built into back packs.
6. For your home’s power needs you can sign up for green power which may cost you slightly more than regular power but in the long run it reduces your carbon emissions and saves on energy. Power suppliers buy renewable energy such as wind and solar power from other sources and then sell it to consumers.
7. In conclusion the design of a building, its position, the lighting used, building materials and green energy it consumes does have the potential to positively impact the environment since it reduces pollution and cuts down on the cost consumers have to pay to cater to their energy requirements.
